This course will cover the structural basis for function of macromolecules, including enzyme mechanism, drug design, structure prediction, function prediction, regulation of function, protein:protein interactions and protein:nucleic acid interactions. Material will presented through lectures and interactive computer tutorials. The topics will be introduced using various systems including purine and pyrimidine metabolism, thiamin biosynthesis, polyamine biosynthesis, radical SAM enzymes, and human immunodeficiency virus, among others. Grading will be based on two in-class prelim exams, tutorials, and a final poster presentation. The course is intended for senior level undergraduates and graduate students.
